These adorable flying squirrels live in Japan and Europe, from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific coast, and fall into the category of old world flying squirrels. They do not hibernate, but in the winter they can sleep up to several days in a row.

Although their name says they are flying squirrels, in reality they are not — they glide using a furry membrane or patagium between their front and rear legs.

It is known that when they use their membranes they can slide through the air more than 100 meters, they do this to escape from a predator or to reach another tree.

Look how adorable they are!
