Instagram was founded in 2010 and then acquired by Facebook. In a few years Instagram became one of the most popular and currently used social networks. Instagram has received many changes, some good and some bad, but so far no social network had removed the number of likes from its posts. The Instagram CEO announced this Friday, November 8, the likes will begin to disappear for users in the United States.
Facebook, who is the current Instagram owner, said the reason they are going to remove likes from posts is because of mental health. Many people become addicted wanting to increase their number of likes in their publications, this is serious because it can cause a person to commit suicide.
Now, that's the reason Facebook said. But many are not convinced with what Facebook said, many people have begun to draw theories of why they will remove the likes. One of the theories is that Instagram wants to take advantage of its users to benefit economically. This is not bad, at the end of the day, Instagram is a company and all they want is to earn money.
But how can Instagram earn money by hiding likes? The answer is simple, hiding your likes allows them to sell your account information to advertisers. This allows advertisers to reach a more specific audience.
